Keyword preparation is done two times in Amazon, first when creating a product listing / optimizing it and 2. giving an Amazon PPC advertisement. We should first focus on the first step. Why is it so important to search and find keywords for your product? In fact, Amazon provides a democratic environment to everyone. Everybody present their product. In fact, investing in an Amazon product is much more important than investing in a brand. If it wasn’t this case, there wouldn’t be five million online Amazon sellers on Amazon today. When forming a new keyword, we should add the keywords our competitors use to our listing, and besides that, we should also find new keywords and add those to our listing as well. To face the customers, Amazon should see us and show us. Because of this, we are looking for keywords which will work out for us.

Things that shouldn’t be done when forming a keyword are those, don’t add unrelated words, wrongly written words, don’t use punctuation marks on keywords, don’t add your competitors name as the keyword, don’t add the ASIN number of your competitors as a keyword, don’t waste the keyword segment. If there are visits to your Amazon product page with these keywords and there are no sales, the Amazon algorithm will think that your product isn’t selling and push you backward. You may notice this when you control your rank value, for example, yesterday I was 80th in the Amazon rank, and today I have regressed back to 90th. That’s why continue to make an analysis on keywords and use the ones that earn you money. Remove the specific keywords that aren’t useful. We can understand which keywords are helpful which aren’t only via making an Amazon PPC campaign. Consequently, by using the keywords we currently use on Amazon PPC campaigns too, we can understand in the course of time whether keywords work or not. Those keywords which are useful continue to remain. We should update those that aren’t useful. This is a job that requires effort, and it requires effort just as in other jobs anyway. Amazon provides a scalable platform. When you develop a sales model based upon data, you are evaluating your data and determine the actions.

When using a keyword, you can’t exceed 250 characters. Thus if you write many words side by side, it should be at most 250 characters when you look at the word count and total character count. Amazon doesn’t take into account more than that. For example, it accepts ‘'water bottle' in total nine characters and counts the spaces between. Filling this whole 250 character will mean more visibility for us. When I type ‘water bottle sport’ as a seed keyword to the Fetchsome Keyword Explorer software, the list of keywords it will give to me will be like this. I want to use a long tail keyword like 'water bottle sport' rather than 'water bottle' as a search term because targeting specific keywords generate less competition than other keywords, however, if there is a demand or Amazon keyword search volume, you have already found your opportunity.

Now I will prepare a summary list like this from here; I will remove brands and reduce the repetitive words into a single one, will remove general expressions if any exists, for, things etc… Then I will count how many characters in total, now I’m writing the concatenated version here by simplifying this in Excel in my PC.

 It became 199 characters in total, and now I will be removing the keywords my competitors make sales with to make it 250, there will be different keywords coming from there, when I add those to this list I will be completing the 250 count. For this, it’s more critical for me to find my most selling or second most selling competitor, because that competitor would have optimized himself by all means until coming to that level. Also, his keywords are optimized keywords. www.fetchsome.com is a web app business application which extracts and gives you the keyword list of your competitor when you enter his ASIN value. Now I will find the most selling competitor, and for this, I may use the Fetchsome Chrome extension or another product research software. Now first with www.fetchsome.com Chrome extension, I will find the most or second most selling competitor’s ASIN value. Then I will enter this reverse ASIN value for the keyword explorer software, and from there I will generate keywords my competitor made sales with.

In this picture in the sales column, there is Amazon, because Amazon is not a competitor to us, we need a competitor like us thus an online Amazon seller. The competitor on the second line may be our competitor. I’m taking the ASIN value from the menu which opens when the three dots one on the top of other is clicked.

Now I will type this ASIN value to the Fetchsome Keyword Explorer software and will be adding the list coming from there to the every keyword list above. When I add the relevant keywords which my competitor uses and sales his products to the current listing, I’m reducing this list into single words joining with the list above. Thus I will reach 250 character count;

I’ve removed the coinciding words from two lists, and adding the different words coming from the competitor, the total of the two listings became 232 characters. Now we haven’t reached 252 characters yet, this time I will do this. I will go to the Keyword Explorer Software and instead of 'water bottle sport' I may write 'water bottle,' or I may discover a few new keywords from the ASIN value of the third competitor. I prefer to go to the keyword explorer tool and write 'water bottle,' will be finding a different new keyword with total character length of 18 from the output list.

Now I’ve written ‘water bottle’ to the Keyword Explorer Software, among the words coming from them, adding those three words ‘infuser,’ ‘bike,’ ‘beach’ it became exactly 250 characters. Now I will add this whole list as a Backend keyword, write the title, add into my bullet points, add into product detail descriptions, and also use this words in the naming of my visuals. This way I will make Amazon notice me and show me.

These are things to be careful when determining a title. If the title appears full of overfilled keywords the customer will find it odd. Let’s take the title of three or four competitor’s, look at the common keywords among them, then we form the title by looking at our keywords and our competitor's keywords.

Our keywords were those which stays present as a whole below, only that I have changed one word with another inside them because the brand name had remained, the list I’m writing now is the most up-to-date list.

If I want to emphasize that our product is sterilized from the BPA chemical, of course, it’s important that our product is this way, thus from an ethical point of view, it won’t be correct to write this just for it to appear this way. BPA Free. After that, I think that it’s important that it is Isolated and Stainless Steel. I don’t want to overfill the title too.
